BENSON A HIT AT NBIS

Fans and racers alike flocked to the Benson pit stall all weekend.  To wait for hours to get an autograph and a quick smile????  Well not quite, actually most ended up standing and talking to the man driving the #21 Irving Oil Monte Carlo.   "Johnny Benson talked to me for 20 minutes!!!" was the common phrase voiced by fans.   Racers marveled at how approachable he was. One Pro Stock driver was quoted "He's just like one of us.  He hung out with us and was visible all weekend".

Johnny was quick to thank everyone involved in making his trip to Canada and the Irving Oil 250 possible.  Special thanks go out to:

Irving Oil - Mainway - Bluecanoe

Ulitimate Motorsports and O'Blenis Family

Fivestar Stock Car Bodies

From Johnny:

Thanks for a great weekend, I sure had fun with all the people involved. Tell everybody I said Hey from down south!!

Thanks again JB

for Irving Oil 250

Benson, Irving Oil and Ultimate Motorsports Team Up

July 6th, 2005
Fredericton, NB – Last year’s Irving Oil 250 at New Brunswick International Speedway attracted one of the best fields of pro stock cars ever seen in the region. This year’s field has already broken that standard. Veteran NASCAR driver Johnny Benson has thrown his hat into the ring for the 2005 Irving Oil 250, which will take place on September 4th, 2005. The current Craftsman Truck Series driver and former Nextel/Winston

March 1st, 2005

Fredericton, NB - New Brunswick International Speedway is pleased to announce that Irving Oil will again sponsor the Pro Stock 250 with Coca Cola and Humpty Dumpty. This will be the fifth year for this major event with last year’s event of over 7,000 people topping all attendance records at Canada’s Fastest Short Track. This year’s event promises to be another record breaker.

The purse for 2005 will be OVER $60,000 with a possible winner’s cheque of $27,500. This includes a guaranteed $15,000 to the event winner. Two years ago, race winner Scott Fraser took home a record $25,400 including lap money.

The Irving Oil 250 will showcase the NBIS CARQUEST Pro Stocks against the best of the Eastern Canada and the New England. It will include a full day of qualifying capped off by the 5th Annual Pro Stock 250 event Sunday evening. Last season’s event attracted a record 36 cars attempting to qualify for 28 spots on the starting grid. This year should attract more.
