– Lonnie Sommerville made his first pro stock start of the season in a
new car a memorable one – he won the Irving Oil 250 in front of over
7,500 fans. Sommerville took the lead on lap 159 and led the rest of the
way except for one lap. Boundary Creek’s Dave O’Blenis finished second
and Presque Ile’s Kirk Thibeau rounded out the top three.

– Nackawic’s Brian Gillespie ended up in the same place as last year
at this time – in the
Capital City Roofing Victory Lane
. Last season, Gillespie won the O’Leary Pontiac Excitement 150 on
Speedweekend Saturday. This year, Gillespie dominated the final half of
the O’Leary Pontiac Excitement 150 to coast to checkers again in front
of approximately 5,000 fans.

It’s that time of the year again. Summer vacation is just about over. Teachers
are back in school. Kids are almost ready. And time to start camping at New
Brunswick international Speedway??? That’s right, NBIS management has spent
that last month bracing for the onslaught of campers this weekend. So, far,
over 100 campers have rolled into the facility with more to come today and
tomorrow. Management have also been working hard to accommodate the huge
crowds with more parking and seating.

Chubbuck Confirms Entry
2005 Irving Oil 250 Champion Defending Title

August 30th -
Fredericton – Scott Chubbuck, winner of the 2005 Irving Oil 250, will be back
to defend his race title. Some would think that this was a given considering
he won just over $25,000 at last season’s event and traditionally runs very
well at NBIS. Even Chubbuck himself would have agreed that it was an easy
decision at the beginning of the season. However, Chubbuck and car owner Jay
Cushman find themselves in an unexpected position – they are leading the Pro
All Stars Series (PASS) points (www.proallstarsseries.com)
and the series is racing on September 3rd – yep, same day as the

– Riverview Ford Lincoln is proud to announce that they will again be
sponsoring the Halfway Award for the Irving Oil 250 this coming Sunday.

finished 1-2 at this year’s storied TD BankNorth 250 at Oxford Plains in
Maine, have announced that they will be attending the Irving Oil 250 that
will take place at New Brunswick International Speedway on September 2nd,
2006. The appearance will mark the Whorff’s first ever appearance at the
New Brunswick facility and represent the end of a long tour of the eastern

Prepares for 5th Annual SPEEDWEEKEND
August 27th -
Fredericton – Geary may be but a small community on the New Brunswick
map for most of the year, but for the past five years, it has become a hub
of activity on Labour Day for one reason – Speedweekend. The region’s
stock car fans descend on New Brunswick International Speedway from
September 1st-4th to enjoy a weekend festival of stock car racing,
highlighted by the Irving Oil 250. With less than a week to the big event,
every indication is that the event will grow once again.

Fredericton, NB – Brad Leighton, one of the most successful drivers
in the history of the Grand National Division, Busch East Series, has
officially announced that he will be attending the Irving Oil 250 at NBIS
on Labour Day Weekend. Just weeks after NASCAR veteran Johnny Benson
announced his intention to race in the event again, Leighton, a veteran
driver in the Northeastern United States and two-time champion of the
Busch East Series (formerly known as the Busch North Series), has
officially announced that he will be racing in the biggest pro stock event
in the Canadian Maritimes on the 2006 schedule.

Fredericton, NB –One year wasn’t enough. NASCAR’s Johnny Benson has
announced that he will be returning to drive in the 2006
Irving
Oil 250. The current Craftsman Truck Series driver and former NASCAR
Nextel Cup regular made the trip last season and enjoyed his experience so
much that he has decided to attend the highlight of the Maritime stock car
season again this season. He is again teaming with Irving Oil and Ultimate
Motorsports for the race.

- New Brunswick International Speedway is pleased to announce that Irving
Oil will again sponsor the Pro Stock 250 with Coca Cola.
This will be the sixth year for this major event with last year’s event of
over 7,000 people topping all attendance records at Canada’s Fastest Short
Track. This year’s event promises to be another record breaker.
The purse for 2006 will be OVER
$60,000 with a possible winner’s cheque of $27,500. This includes a
guaranteed $15,000 to the event winner. Three years ago, race winner Scott
Fraser took home a record $25,400 including lap mone and last year Scott
Chubbuck claimed $25,150.
The Irving Oil 250 will showcase
the NBIS CARQUEST Pro Stocks against the best of the Eastern Canada and
the New England. It will include a full day of qualifying capped off by
the 6th Annual Pro Stock 250 event Sunday evening. Last season’s event
attracted a record 39 cars attempting to qualify for 28 spots on the
starting grid. This year should attract more.
The
Irving Oil 250 event will remain a one day event as part of SPEEDWEEKEND
that will take place on Sunday September 3rd, 2006.
