The Day Of Champions
Rasmussen, Gillespie, Francis take home the
Championships
September 22nd, 2007
Fredericton, NB – With the season coming to an end drivers
and fans went away on a positive note as Fan Appreciation Day
concluded the 2007 season. Today was the day of the champions as Glen
Rasmussen, Brian Gillespie and Mike Francis took home their
championship trophies and titles for the 2007 season while race fans
took home some memorabilia from the drivers. Not only was this the
concluding day for the season, this was the final day and laps of
Smokin’ Joe Albert’s racing career.

2007 Coast Tire Street Stock
Champion - Mike Francis

Coast Tire Street Stock Feature
Winner - Josh Arbeau

2007 Coast Tire Street Stock Rookie
of the Year -Brian Fox

Legendary Smokin Joe Albert takes a
ride in NBIS Pro Stock as he bids farewell to the crowd
In the Coast Tire Street Stock division a
first time champion stood on the side of his car with pride as he took
home the 2007 Championship in the Coast Tire Street Stock Division.
Francis finished in 14th overall in today’s race while Derek
Christie in the #45 overcame the #54 of Rick Cashol to get closer to
his first championship but came 16 points short of Francis. In the
race itself however the #61 of Josh Arbeau took home the feature win
while the #18 of John Feltmate took home second and rounding out the
top three was the #11 of Rodney Ness. This years rookie award went to
the #88 of Brian Fox who has had a great past couple of weeks with at
least all top 10 finishes.

2007 Martins Home Heating Sportsman
Champion - Brian Gillespie

Martins Home Heating Feature Winner
- George Jameson

2007 Martins Home Heating Rookie of
the Year - Chris Garnett

2007 Macleans Sports Most Laps
Completed Sportsman - Brian MacNaughton
In the Martin’s Home Heating Sportsman
division a championship added yet another trophy to his case and
another title to his tally. Going into the feature the #69 of Brian
Gillespie and the #18 of Brian MacNaughton were tied. At the end of
the day only one person can take home the championship and that honor
goes to the Nackawic Nitetrain of Brian Gillespie. In the feature
however the #44 of George Jamieson put another great end to their
season, this time on all four wheels and off the tow truck. If fans
can remember, in 2006 George Jamieson finished the race on his roof in
the pits. After being hooked on a tow truck and turned over, the #44
Dodge was towed into victory. This year was fortunately not a repeat.
Finishing in second was the #69 of Brian Gillespie and rounding out
the top three was the #37 of Bradley Logan. The top rookie contender
award went to the #96 of Chris Garnett while the #18 of Brian
MacNaughton took home the most laps completed Haulmark Trailer.

2007 CARQUEST Pro Stock Champion -
Glen Rassmussen - Feature Winner

2007 Macleans Sports Most Laps
Completed Pro Stock- Paul Gahan
In the CARQUEST Pro Stock division
another championship was added to the #81 Dodge of Glen Rasmussen.
Rasmussen now has four championships and trophies under his belt.
Rasmussen finished off the year with a first place podium finish along
with a championship. Leading into the feature, Greg Fahey was only 5
points behind Rasmussen. Due to a couple of on-track incidents #20 had
to settle for second overall. In the feature, finishing second was the
#26 of Mike Stevens and finishing in the third position was the #48 of
Dave O’Blenis. After experiencing problems in the feature, the #66
of Paul Gahan took was able to hang on for the Most Laps Completed
Macleans Sports Haulmark Trailer Award.
The 2007 season has finally come to an
end; however it went out like a bang! Albert is retiring after this
year, the champions were crowned while the fans and staff went home
please with another successful season. With another year in the books
NBIS staff wishes all the best to everyone during the off season and
we will see everyone in the 2008 season which is sure to be FANTASTIC!

NBIS
to Celebrate Day of Champions - Fan Appreciation Day
Season Finale this Saturday. Smokin Joe's Last
Race!!
September 19th, 2007
Fredericton, NB - As the weather begins to turn a bit chilly and
summer runs into fall, the racing season at NBIS comes to a close this
coming season. However, the season will end with a memorable event for
the fans and drivers . This weekend will be the final race of the
season with Saturday's Fan Appreciation Day (2pm start). Fan
Appreciation Day is a day made especially for the fans that make NBIS
racing so spectacular. Drivers will also get their time to shine with
their finals points race of the year.
Mother Nature interfered for the second
time this season as last weekend's event was washed due to poor
whether. This weekend features a return to the oval for the final
event of the season with several familiar faces once again in the run
for the championship. In the CARQUEST Pro Stock Division, returning
champion Glen Rasmussen is hoping to put a forth championship in his
trophy case, but he holds a mere 20 point lead over Greg Fahey and
Dave O'Blenis, a two-time champion. Any of the top three drivers could
take home the championship as Rasmussen did when he pulled off one of
the most remarkable last day championship wins in recent history when
he went into the final event in 2003 ten points behind the leader, ran
a perfect day winning his heat, dash, and feature to win the
championship by a single point.
In the Martin's Home Heating Sportsman
Division, three-time sportsman champion Brian Gillespie enters the
event looking for a record fourth championship. The Nackawic resident
currently holds a mere 6 point lead over veteran driver and defending
champion Brian MacNaughton. Sitting in the third spot, and returning
back to NBIS is Wade Harris who is still in recovery from an
unfortunate wreck a few weeks back. Gillespie knows from first hand
experience that the championship will not be his until the final lap.
In 2003, he entered the final event in fifth place and 25 points
behind the leader. By the end of the event, he had a 13 point lead and
the championship.
In the Coast Tire Street Stock Division,
Mike Francis is looking for his first ever championship, holding a 28
point lead over defending champion Rick Cashol currently in the second
position. It's been a very competitive year between the two and given
that they will be starting side-side to each other all afternoon; it's
bound to lead to some typical three-wide street stock racing and some
fender rubbing. Derek Christie sits just outside, 30 points behind
contender Francis. It's not inconceivable that with a good run and
some bad luck by Francis or Cashol, Christie might find himself with
his first championship also. In addition to this championship battle
Saturday will mark the last race for legendary Smokin' Joe Albert as
he plans to retire after this event. Be sure to come out to his last
effort in the trademark orange 04.
This will be the weekend where the
drivers will also give back to the fans with a pre-race on-track
autograph session starting at 1pm. This is just one component of Fan
Appreciation Day that is designed for fans of all ages and includes
prizes from gracious sponsors that will be given away throughout the
day.
Prizes, an autograph session, and last
gasp dashes to the championship - what more could a fan want? Who will
be crowned champions in 20067? Check it out this weekend at New
Brunswick International Speedway. The actions starts at 2pm this
coming Saturday.

TRIPLE
HEADER 50's CANCELLED

Saturday 7:45am -
Given the forecast for rain late this morning and afternoon officials
at NBIS have cancelled Saturday's scheduled Triple 50 event. The
call was made early to attempt to save race teams and fans travel
costs as a "later in the day" cancellation looked inevitable.
NOTE: There is no
rain date for this event so the next scheduled event is Fan
Appreciation Day Saturday Sept 22nd at 2:00pm.

Hathaway
and Ruff Shine Up For Another Trophy
Dale Hathaway and Benji Ruff
Make A Repeat Championship Win for 2007.

September 3rd, 2007
Fredericton, NB – Another successful Leisure Family RV Centers
SPEEDWEEKEND is in the books for another year. To finish off the
weekend the Enduro 200 championship took place and the 2007 champions
were crowned.

Pat Sharpe in the #51 held on to the lead
for a long period of time. He eventually caught up to the crowd in the
final points to, evidentially, get spun out by almost every contender
on the track. This didn’t stop his car from taking home the win of
today’s race but that win just wasn’t enough to take home the BIG
win. Finishing in the second position was the number 8 of the
championship team, Benji ruff and Dale Hathaway. This dynamic duo has
won previous championships and is not a stranger to victory lane.
Rounding out the top three was the #50 of Billy Duthie who took home
his first podium finish of the 2007 season.
The Enduro driver’s now have a few
months to improve their cars and possibly make new ones as this event
was the last Enduro 200 of the season. NBIS will return to the Enduro
season in 2008. The race season is not yet over for 2007 though so
make sure you swing by the Geary woods on September 15th for the first
ever triple header feature for all three divisions.
