Chubbuck Confirms Entry
2005 Irving Oil 250 Champion Defending Title

August 30th - Fredericton – Scott Chubbuck, winner of the 2005 Irving Oil 250, will be back to defend his race title. Some would think that this was a given considering he won just over $25,000 at last season’s event and traditionally runs very well at NBIS. Even Chubbuck himself would have agreed that it was an easy decision at the beginning of the season. However, Chubbuck and  car owner Jay Cushman find themselves in an unexpected position – they are leading the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) points (www.proallstarsseries.com) and the series is racing on September 3rd – yep, same day as the Irving Oil 250.

“We were planning on running most of the PASS races but never really expected to be in the running for points,” said Cushman this week. “You’ve got Ben and Mike Rowe, Johnny Clark, Travis Benjamin, and Cassius Clark to name a few really good drivers and then there’s the rest of the field too. It’s a very good group of drivers from top to bottom.”.

However, Chubbuck and Cushman  are at the top and that put their team in a tough position. “We really are big supporters of the PASS series and take great pride in the fact we are leading the points but our intention since the beginning of the year was to race in the Irving Oil 250.  We had an awesome day last year and we are hoping to become the first Irving Oil 250 repeat champion.”, stated Cushman.

The team may find a replacement driver to take Chubbuck’s ride in the PASS race, but that has not been determined yet. It definitely won’t be a cakewalk for the Brunswick, ME driver. The growing list of probable entries for the Irving Oil 250 includes NASCAR’s Johnny Benson, Busch East veteran Brad Leighton, Oxford 250 winner Jeremie Whorff and his dad Bill, the second place finisher, plus past Irving Oil 250 champions Dave O’Blenis, Shawn Tucker, and Kirk Thibeau. NBIS plans to release an expected entries list later in the week.

The Irving Oil 250 Presented by Coca Cola is part of Speedweekend (September 1st-4th) and will showcase the NBIS CARQUEST Pro Stocks against the best pro stocks of the Eastern Canada and the New England. It is billed as the Largest Racing Event in Atlantic Canada with a purse OVER $64,000 with a possible winner’s cheque of $28,500. This includes a guaranteed $15,000 to the event winner. Initial estimates have the expected car in the area of 35-40 pro stocks from the Maritimes and Maine.
