Fredericton
Hyundai Sponsors Street 50
Local Dealership Gets Involved in Speedweekend
August 30th -
Fredericton – New Brunswick International Speedway is proud to announce
that Fredericton Hyundai will sponsor the Street Stock 50 lapper scheduled for
Sunday, September 3rd of Speedweekend. The event will take place in
the afternoon as one of the support classes to the Irving Oil 250.
“We are very pleased to have
Fredericton Hyundai join us on our biggest day of the season,” said co-owner
Steven Burns. “The Coast Tire Street Stocks are a very important part of the
show that day and they rarely disappoint. They can be counted on to put on a
very entertaining show.”
The Coast Tire Street Stocks are
the entry level class at NBIS, complementing the Martin’s Home Heating
Sportsman, and CARQUEST Pro Stocks.
Street stocks are basically street cars with roll cages as
well as other safety features. This division is as competitive as the other
divisions at NBIS and a strong incubator for the other two divisions. Although
slower than their cousins, this class features some of the more entertaining
races due to the mix of veteran drivers and rookie drivers who will add their
brand of excitement. They commonly go through the corners three wide for
several laps as they jostle for position. They normally run 20-lap features
except for a 75-lapper earlier in the season and Sunday’s 50-lapper.
The afternoon show on Sunday,
September 3rd will consist of pro stock qualifying for the Irving
Oil 250, an 35-lap Atlantic Open Wheel (AOW) feature, and the Fredericton
Hyundai Street Stock 50. Once that portion of the card is complete, NBIS will
take an intermission featuring Casey Leblanc, and return with the Irving Oil
250 at approximately 7pm.
This is Fredericton Hyundai’s
first sponsorship at the Geary oval. Located at 1165 Hanwell Rd., it is one of
Atlantic Canada’s fastest growing automotive dealerships by providing
outstanding value and service.
Speedweekend
Speedweekend continues to grow every year with over 12,000 people attending
the weekend in 2005. In 2006, the four-day stock car fest is scheduled for
September 1st-4th and includes a corn boil on Friday
night, O’Leary Pontiac Excitement Sportsman 150 race on Saturday night, the
Irving Oil 250 on Sunday, and finishes up with an Enduro 200 on Monday. While
the Irving Oil 250 is the highlight of the racing events, the weekend has
developed into an event on its own with over 400 campers turning NBIS into a
small town over the weekend. It has become the destination of choice for the
region’s stock car fans.
The Irving Oil
250
The 2006 Irving Oil 250 will take place on Sunday, September 3rd, 2006 and
will be the highlight of the sixth annual Speedweekend. The event will
showcase the NBIS CARQUEST Pro Stocks against the best of the Eastern Canada
and New England. The purse for 2006 will be over $60,000 with a guaranteed
$15,000 to the event winner and possible winner’s cheque of $27,500. Three
years ago, the late Scott Fraser took home a record $25,400 including lap
money.
Only six years old, the event as grown in crowd,
atmosphere, and car count every year since its inception. Over 7,500 people
attended the 2005 event to break attendance records at Canada’s Fastest Short
Track. A record 39 pro stock cars, including several Maine drivers, attempted
to qualify for 28 spots on the starting grid. Visit
